The House: Victoria is a long, low typical French farmhouse, built of stone and some 300 years old. It was once the presbytery in the days when the ruined little church of St Martin on the hill was still in use. The house lies on a quiet hillside, surrounded by farmland and long views over 180 degrees.
Given its great age we have tried hard to maintain its rustic character and have resisted modernising it. So there is no phone, no television and no central heating … just charm and character. (There is WiFi connection, however, mobile phone reception and a DVD player with a large stock of DVD’s).
It consists of entrance hall, kitchen, three bedrooms (two very large with three beds each and one smaller with double bed. Auxiliary folding beds are also available. There are two bathrooms with WC and showers. Cooking is by bottled gas cooker and oven and a microwave cooker. Should the weather turn chilly (very unlikely in the Summer), you can light a wood fire in the enormous traditional open fireplace or alternatively, there are bottled gas room heaters.
You can see photos both inside and around the house if you go to the photos section
There is a large swimming pool that is shared with the owner by arrangement depending on the number of people occupying Victoria and their ages. Children must be supervised whenever around or in the pool. Bracelet alarms are also available for hire for small children if you would like further peace of mind and to provide additional security .
The owner lives just a couple of hundred meters away and is available to provide help if and when needed.
Victoria is essentially a very rustic property ideal for those seeking peace and tranquility. It is well equipped but largely retains its original appearance . A fish pond butts onto the building with a water well adjacent to the entrance door.
Whilst the house is close to the road, (access to the road is blocked by hedges and so safe for young children) it has little traffic other than tractors and occasional cars. There is ample private garden area for outside dining, playing ball games and sunbathing as well as covered parking. A gas BBQ is provided.
The views are stunning and the privacy is complete. The private garden is not overlooked by anyone. On the other side of the house butting up to the kitchen, is a pretty pond with lots of wildlife in it which is generally of considerable interest to children children as they try to catch the goldfish.
